Psalm 104:5-13
People who live in the city sometimes forget that our God is the God of creation. He’s the God of nature. In the United States alone, every day, remember now I said every day, over 2,700 acres of pavement are laid down on God’s ground. You see I can’t believe that, but it’s true! Every single day, concrete asphalt goes over God’s ground and covers 2,700 acres. Before long God’s creation’s going to be under concrete and asphalt!
We ought to pause and get acquainted with the God of creation and Psalm 104 is a good Psalm to use in getting acquainted with the God of creation. Verse 5, “Who laid the foundations of the earth, that it should not be removed for ever. Thou coveredst it with the deep as with a garment: the waters stood above the mountains.” He’s talking here about the flood back in Noah’s day. “At Thy rebuke they fled; at the voice of Thy thunder they hastened away.” “Thou has set a bound that they may not pass over; that they turn not again to cover the earth.”
He was the God of judgment. He judged when He sent the flood. We don’t have those floods today. The next time God sends judgment it’s going to be fire, not water. But we do have water and we’re grateful for it. Verse 10 says, “He sends the springs into the valleys, which run among the hills.” Here’s a beautiful picture of the little rivers and the springs in the hills. And this makes possible the beasts to have food and drink. “They give drink to every beast of the field: the wild asses quench their thirst.” “The fowls of the heavens have their habitation,” in the trees that are by these rivers. I like verse 12 that little phrase, they “sing among the branches.” Here’s the God who waters the hills. He waters the earth. The food comes up. Man and beast is able to live because our God supplies the water.
And just as a little extra blessing, He puts the birds in the branches and they sing. All of creation is satisfied. Verse 13, “The earth is satisfied with the fruit of Thy works.” The God of creation is the God of salvation and He can satisfy your thirsty soul today.
