Today, we are in Psalm 112, a psalm that is a perfect follow-up to Psalm 111, because this psalm moves beyond praising and obeying God to the blessings that come with that praise and obedience.
Please join me in reading the first six verses of Psalm 112 entitled, “The Righteous Will Never Be Moved.”
1 Praise the Lord!
Blessed is the man who fears the Lord,
who greatly delights in his commandments!
2 His offspring will be mighty in the land;
the generation of the upright will be blessed.
3 Wealth and riches are in his house,
and his righteousness endures forever.
4 Light dawns in the darkness for the upright;
he is gracious, merciful, and righteous.
5 It is well with the man who deals generously and lends;
who conducts his affairs with justice.
6 For the righteous will never be moved;
he will be remembered forever.
As I read this psalm, I heard a solid-ness that comes with worship and obedience, a confidence that is unshakeable, an assurance that comes with deep conviction. The sense of “I will not be moved”, “I will not be shaken” that this psalm outlines as a blessing from practicing praise, worship, and obedience, is clear.
There’s a lot we learn about the blessings the people who praise the Father and obey Him receive, just from this portion of Psalm 112 alone.
So, now fellow under-shepherds, how do we apply practically what the psalmist is saying in the first portion of Psalm 112?
Well, that’s your challenge this week! Take time to work through these six verses and journal what it would take for YOU to receive these blessings.
It does not matter if you are a shepherd pastor, a shepherd parent, a shepherd student, or a shepherd CEO, these all apply to you if you are worshipping our Lord and obeying His Word.
Thank you for joining me this week. May you live deeply into your calling and shepherd well those the Father has entrusted to your care.
