Psalm, Chapter 13

Prayer for Help in Trouble.

For the music director. A Psalm of David.

13 How long, Lord? Will You forget me forever?
 How long will You hide Your face from me?

-          Prayer for Help in Trouble

-          There seems to be a lot of prayer for Help in Psalms

-          How long, Lord?

o   It seems David got impatient waiting for the Lord to help

o   How about you? Are you getting impatient about something in your heart today?

-          Will You forget me forever?

o   David seems to think that the Lord has forgotten him

o   How about you? Do you think the Lord has forgotten you because He has not answered your prayer for help yet too?

o   Are you starting to think He might not every answer you?

§  It’s a trick

§  1st we begin to think “how long, Lord?”

§  Then we began to think the Lord has forgotten us

§  Then we think the Lord may never answer

·       It a progression from doubt, to worry, to fear

·       And it’s definitely not from God

-          How long will You hide Your face from me?

o   How long has it been since you saw God’s face?

o   Does it seem He is hiding His face from you?

o   Like maybe He doesn’t want to see you because of some recent sin?

§  Sin often makes us not want to seek to the face of God

§  Don’t let sin block you; ask for forgiveness and mean it with your heart

§  God will forgive you instantly and He is ready to forgive and listen

o   Asking God to forgive you and trusting in the blood of the lamb to pay for your sin

§  Is the key to seeing God’s face again quickly
