Psalm 17 - Prayer for Protection against Oppressors

Listen Later

Psalm, Chapter 17

Prayer for Protection against Oppressors.

A Prayer of David.

17 Hear a just cause, Lord, give Your attention to my cry;
Listen to my prayer, which is not from deceitful lips.

-          In chapter 16 we were convinced that our future is secure in Christ our portion

-          Our inheritance was guaranteed by the cup (the blood of the lamb)

-          Now in chapter 17, David is back asking for protection again

-          It seems David had a lot of spiritual attack and he had to go the Lord with it regularly

o   Don’t think it strange as some odd thing is happening to you when this occurs

   1 Peter 4:12-19

-          Hear a just cause, Lord, give Your attention to my cry

o   David wants the Lord to hear a just cause (he wants to tell God the story)

Sometimes healing begins when we get to tell our side of the story

David needed to get this off his chest

o   Notice that David thinks “it’s a just cause” that he wants to talk about

We always think our cause is just

-          Lord, give Your attention to my cry

o   David wants God’s attention (like incline your ear)

-          Listen to my prayer

o   A prayer is a dialogue with god (it’s not a ATM machine)

o   You should pray and you should listen to His will

-          Which is not from deceitful lips

o   David is confirming that he is speaking truth (unlike others)

o   This is why he think God will listen
