PSALM 20 - For the removal of suffering
א לַמְנַצֵּחַ, מִזְמוֹר לְדָוִד
For the Leader, a Psalm to David
ב יַעַנְךָ יְהוָה, בְּיוֹם צָרָה;
יְשַׂגֶּבְךָ, שֵׁם אֱלֹהֵי יַעֲקֹב
He shall answer you, He the LORD in the day of anguish
Shall be your impregnable retreat / high tower / refuge /
the name of the God of Jacob
ג יִשְׁלַח-עֶזְרְךָ מִקֹּדֶשׁ;
וּמִצִּיּוֹן, יִסְעָדֶךָּ
He shall send your helper from the Sanctuary
And from Zion he will refresh you
ד יִזְכֹּר כָּל-מִנְחֹתֶךָ;
וְעוֹלָתְךָ יְדַשְּׁנֶה סֶלָה
He will remember/bring to mind all that you ever gave up, all
of your presents
And all that of yours which went up in smoke will make you
better off for it
Lift it up!
ה יִתֶּן-לְךָ כִלְבָבֶךָ; וְכָל-עֲצָתְךָ
יְמַלֵּא
He shall give you just what fits your inner self
And all of your plans he’ll fulfill
ו נְרַנְּנָה, בִּישׁוּעָתֶךָ--
וּבְשֵׁם-אֱלֹהֵינוּ נִדְגֹּל;
יְמַלֵּא יְהוָה, כָּל-מִשְׁאֲלוֹתֶיךָ.
We’ll shout a ringing cry of triumph/a battle cry of
victory in your salvation/overcoming and in the name of our God we’ll raise it
up!
Shall fulfill the Lord all you ever asked for.
ז עַתָּה יָדַעְתִּי-- כִּי הוֹשִׁיעַ
יְהוָה, מְשִׁיחוֹ:
יַעֲנֵהוּ, מִשְּׁמֵי קָדְשׁוֹ-- בִּגְבֻרוֹת,
יֵשַׁע יְמִינוֹ.
Now I know that delivers the Lord his anointed.
He will answer him from his holy heavens by the power of
his right hand.
ח אֵלֶּה בָרֶכֶב, וְאֵלֶּה בַסּוּסִים
וַאֲנַחְנוּ, בְּשֵׁם-יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵינוּ
נַזְכִּיר
These in their vehicles, and these in their horsepower, but
we of the name of the LORD our God will make mention.
ט הֵמָּה, כָּרְעוּ וְנָפָלוּ;
וַאֲנַחְנוּ קַּמְנוּ, וַנִּתְעוֹדָד.
They crouch down but still fall!
We get on our feet and bounce right back!
י יְהוָה הוֹשִׁיעָה: הַמֶּלֶךְ,
יַעֲנֵנוּ בְיוֹם-קָרְאֵנוּ
Got save you!
The King shall answer us nn the time of our calling
