Message Notes:

1 My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me, from the words of my groaning? 2 O my God, I cry by day, but you do not answer, and by night, but I find no rest. 3 Yet you are holy, enthroned on the praises of Israel. 4 In you our fathers trusted; they trusted, and you delivered them. 5 To you they cried and were rescued; in you they trusted and were not put to shame. — Psalm 22v1-5 (ESV)

It’s impossible to be spiritually mature while remaining emotionally immature.

Beloved, I pray that all may go well with you and that you may be in good health, as it goes well with your soul. — 3 John 2 (ESV)

Stories of suffering:

  • Joseph - was sold and cheated by his brothers
  • Job - family taken, physical disease, loss of wealth
  • Elijah/Jonah - so depressed both asked for their life to end
  • Stephen - killed with stones for believing in Jesus
  • Paul - just go read 2 Corinthians 11
  • 10 I want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, 11 and so, somehow, attaining to the resurrection from the dead. - Philippians 3v10-11 (NIV)

    You’re in good company

    1. Jesus was mocked

7 All who see me mock me; they make mouths at me; they wag their heads; 8 “He trusts in the Lord; let him deliver him; let him rescue him, for he delights in him!” – Psalm 22v7-8 (ESV)

28 And they stripped him and put a scarlet robe on him, 29 and twisting together a crown of thorns, they put it on his head and put a reed in his right hand. And kneeling before him, they mocked him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!” 30 And they spit on him and took the reed and struck him on the head. – Matthew 27v28-30 (ESV)

    2. Jesus was rejected

22 The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone.[23 This is the Lord's doing; it is marvelous in our eyes. 24 This is the day that the Lord has made;let us rejoice and be glad in it. – Psalm 118v22-24 (ESV)

    REJECTION SHOULD LEAD TO REJOICING

18 “If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you. 19 If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.  – John 15v18-19 (ESV)

    3. Jesus was betrayed

    Matthew 26v14-16 (NIV)

    When you’ve been betrayed

    • Name your feeling
    • Resist retaliating
    • Take some time away
    • Get some healthy feedback
    • Examine the situation
    • Readjust the relationship
    • Don’t forget about Jesus
    • Matthew 26v14-16 (ESV)

      4. Jesus was forsaken

      Galatians 3v13 (ESV)

      Psalm 22v1 (ESV)

      Matthew 27v46 (ESV)

      Psalm 23v1-2 (ESV)
