Psalm 27:10
Though my father and mother forsake me, the Lord will receive me.
In verse 9, David makes it clear that the worst thing that
could ever happen in his life would be to lose his personal relationship with God. We rejoice in the fact that this can never happen to us, because of the death of Jesus, which makes us God's children.
Here in v. 10 we see that David has that same confidence even if his closest human relationship fails. Even if he loses his parents, he knows that his God will still be faithful.
Some of us know the pain of rejection or separation in our
human families, or other close relationships, when we lose someone who we thought would always be there for us. Perhaps they rejected us, or perhaps they were taken away by circumstances beyond their control. Or perhaps the
relationship isn't over, but it is strained. There's something about us - perhaps our relationship with God, or something else - which they just can't accept. If we've experienced any of these things, we might be left longing for a better relationship, in which we will never feel abandoned. Or we might shrink back from trusting anyone in the future, knowing how much pain that would risk.
Whatever our experiences, the promise of this verse is true
for each one of us. God is 100% faithful. He will never reject any of his children. Nor can we be taken away from him by anything outside of his control. Whatever our circumstances today, he will receive us. Whether we are running into his open arms to share our joys, or crawling into his lap to sob out our sorrows, or shuffling slowly towards him, head down, burdened by our guilt, we are guaranteed a warm welcome.
Let's praise God together for his faithful, unchanging love,
which guarantees that he will never shut us out of his presence. And let's make the most of that welcome by sharing with him honestly whatever is on our minds and in our hearts today.
