Psalms for Shepherds

Psalm 28: Psalms for Shepherds

Listen Later

Psalm 28 is a companion to Psalm 26. This is a difficult time for David. In the first five verses we read David's appeal to be heard. Perhaps David is learning that God's delay in answering is not necessarily God's denials. Then in the sixth verse David shifts to expressing unbounded praise. He goes from crying out to singing the praise of the Good Shepherd.

6 Praise the Lord!
For he has heard my cry for mercy.
7 The Lord is my strength and shield.
I trust him with all my heart.
He helps me, and my heart is filled with joy.
I burst out in songs of thanksgiving.

8 The Lord gives his people strength.
He is a safe fortress for his anointed king.
9 Save your people!
Bless Israel, your special possession.
Lead them like a shepherd,
and carry them in your arms forever.
Psalm 28:6-9 NLT

Dear shepherd leader, what do you want to keep in mind from this psalm? Is it an appeal to the Father for His intervention? Is it a comfort and confidence in an unanswered prayer? Or is this a time to show unbounded praise in the Father for what He has done or will do for you? Let us rest in the promise we have in verse 9. The Good Shepherd will lead us and carry us in His arms forever.
