Psalms for Shepherds

Psalm 34: Psalms for Shepherds

Listen Later

In Psalm 34 David writes about one of his experiences when he was fleeing from King Saul and ended up in front of the Philistine King, Abimelech, an enemy of the Jews. You can read more about this story in 1 Samuel 21.

15 The eyes of the Lord watch over those who do right;
his ears are open to their cries for help.
16 But the Lord turns his face against those who do evil;
he will erase their memory from the earth.
17 The Lord hears his people when they call to him for help.
He rescues them from all their troubles.
18 The Lord is close to the brokenhearted;
he rescues those whose spirits are crushed.
Psalm 34:15-18 New Living Translation

In this psalm David praises God for saving him from Abimelech. In the same way God will never forget us. God is always near, always for us, and always in us.

Dear shepherd leader no matter what you face the Good Shepherd is always with you. The God of the universe, the same One who saved David from Abimelech, saves you each and every day and is on your side.
