This is the Psalm 51 prayer of David that a lot of people are aware of. We deal with it from an origin in Second Samuel. Because where we find ourselves in the “present” need to repent, there is a prior someone or something that caused this need. Momentary pleasure or self fulfillment may cloud our value systems but there is value in repentance.
