Psalms for Shepherds

Psalm 54: Psalms for Shepherds

Listen Later

Psalm 54 is a beautiful reminder by David that when we are in danger our God, our Shepherd, is there for us. The starting point for many of us is fear. We can seek God at that time and then have confidence in our Lord. The finishing point should be praise to the Lord even when don't know the outcome.

1 O God, save me by your name,
and vindicate me by your might.
2 O God, hear my prayer;
give ear to the words of my mouth.
3 For strangers have risen against me;
ruthless men seek my life;
they do not set God before themselves. Selah
4 Behold, God is my helper;
the Lord is the upholder of my life.
5 He will return the evil to my enemies;
in your faithfulness put an end to them.
6 With a freewill offering I will sacrifice to you;
I will give thanks to your name, O Lord, for it is good.
7 For he has delivered me from every trouble,
and my eye has looked in triumph on my enemies.
Psalm 54 (ESV)

David's life was clearly in danger. He called on God to save him and vindicate his cause. Just as we can also. Like David, we can have full confidence in God's salvation because we know God's character (see verse 1). We can rely on God's strength and faithfulness and praise Him for these (see verses 5 & 7).

May we always turn to the Good Shepherd first. Trusting Him for His Provision and His Protection. Knowing His Presence is always with us in every situation and circumstance.

May you live deeply into your calling, dear shepherd leader.
