Psalm 62 - God Alone a Refuge from Treachery and Oppression

Listen Later

Psalm, Chapter 62

God Alone a Refuge from Treachery and Oppression.

For the choir director; [a]according to Jeduthun. A Psalm of David.

62 My soul waits in silence for God only;
From Him is my salvation.

-          The title of this message is God Alone a Refuge from Treachery and Oppression

o   First we note the God Alone is the answer

o   Second we note that God is a Refuge, a place of safety to run too

o   Third we learn God is a refuge from Treachery & Oppression

§  Treachery is a violation of allegiance or of faith; behavior that deceives or is not loyal to someone who trusts you

§  Oppression is unjust or cruel exercise of authority or power; prevented from having freedom or opportunities

-          For the choir director, according to Jeduthun, A Psalm of David

o   This means this passage was meant to be a song that would be taught, memorized and sang in order to remember the words

o   Jeduthun means praise or to praise

-          So we learn from this title that:

o   God alone is the answer

o   He is a refuge, a safe place to run too

o   From deceptive disloyal people and people trying to prevent your freedom & opportunities

o   We should remember and sing this song

o   The result will end in praise to God!

-          My Soul waits in silence for God only

o   This is the key

§  To wait in silence for God only

-          From Him is my salvation

o   The reason you wait for Him

o   Because He is the only One who can provide eternal salvation

o   Nobody else’s opinion matters

o   So we learn to wait on Him and not take matters into our own hands

2 He only is my rock and my salvation,
My stronghold; I shall not be greatly shaken.

-          He only is my rock and my salvation

o   Again it is He only (Jesus Christ and not other name under heaven)

o   He is my rock (solid ground on which to stand or build your life upon)

o   And my salvation (the One who save me from everything in this life)

-          My stronghold; I shall not be greatly shaken

o   My stronghold is a rock fortress which cannot be penetrated by your enemies

o   In short, God will protect you from all harm

o   Therefore, I shall not be greatly shaken

§  This means nothing else should rock your world because God is your protector

§  If God is your rock and salvation, you have nothing to fear
