Psalm 62:6
Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I shall not be shaken.
Do these words sound familiar? They should do! Verse 6 is an exact repeat of verse 2. Why? Why does the psalmist repeat himself? I imagine it's because he is like us, and needs to keep hearing the same truths over and
over again because his mind wanders. He is easily distracted. He quickly turns his attention away from the God who saves, to look at the enemies who attack.
He takes his eyes off the God who is his rock and focuses on himself, the wobbly fence.
That's why we need to hear God speak to us daily. A weekly sermon or Bible study is a wonderful thing. But if David needs to remind himself of the same things
within the space of 4 verses we shouldn't be surprised that we reminders to focus on God more than once or twice a week! However often we feel weak,
uncertain or afraid, that’s how often we need to fix our eyes on God our rock. However often we face temptation to sin, or discouragement because we’ve failed, that’s how often we need to fix our eyes on God our salvation. And if we don’t feel any of those things, and think we can live perfectly well without God, then we definitely need to fix our eyes on him again and remind ourselves just how much we need the one who made us and gives us our every breath.
Let’s pray that we will be people who build time with God
into our daily habits so that we stay focused on the one who is our rock, salvation and fortress.
