Psalm 63 - The Thirsting Soul Satisfied in God

Listen Later

Psalm, Chapter 63

The Thirsting Soul Satisfied in God.

A Psalm of David, [a]when he was in the wilderness of Judah.

63 God, You are my God; I shall be watching for You;
My soul thirsts for You, my flesh yearns for You,
In a dry and exhausted land where there is no water.

-          The title of this message is The Thirsting Soul Satisfied in God

-          Is your Soul thirsting?

-          It will only be satisfied in God

-          A Psalm of David, when he was in the wilderness of Judah

-          Sometimes we feel like we are in the wilderness

o   No provision

o   No people

o   Only Gods creation and the sounds thereof

o   We become acutely aware of our need for God

-          God, You are my God; I shall be watching for You

o   Verse 1 is very important

o   First the affirmation “God, You are my God”

§  This is a personal choice

§  You must, I must, we must chose God

§  God is either Lord of all or He is not Lord at all (it’s time to chose)

o   Second David said “I shall be watching for You”

§  In other words, David continually looks up expecting God’s return

§  How about us?

§  Do you live your life with great expectation of His immediate return?

-          My soul thirsts for You, my flesh yearns for You

o   When you have crawled through the desert long enough you get real thirsty

o   Then you will feel a thirst deep inside that drives you to find water no matter what

o   Is that the kind of thirst you have for God?

o   Does your flesh yearn for God?

§  You just can’t wait to see Him?

-          In a dry and exhausted land where there is no water

o   It’s a picture of the desert but its also a picture of our world

o   A dry and exhausted land desperately needs living water to bring life again

2 So have I seen You in the sanctuary,
To see Your power and glory.

-          David sees in his minds eye, by faith, God in His sanctuary

-          He sees God’s power & glory and he knows He will see it in person someday soon!

3 Because Your [b]favor is better than life,
My lips will praise You.

-          Because your favor is better than life

o   Have you experienced God’s favor and the joy of the Lord?

o   Once you have tasted it, nothing on earth can compare

o   You will gladly exchange all that you have in this life for that which is coming

-          My lips will praise You

o   The proper response to God’s favor is praise

o   This means that you engage your lips in active service

o   Open your mouth wide and let the praises flow out so that He can hear you!
