Today we're in Psalm 70 and in these five short verses, we see the beauty of David’s dependence on God. It is clear that David needs help and he is turning to God for that help.
1 Please, God, rescue me!
Come quickly, Lord, and help me.
2 May those who try to kill me
be humiliated and put to shame.
May those who take delight in my trouble
be turned back in disgrace.
3 Let them be horrified by their shame,
for they said, “Aha! We’ve got him now!”
4 But may all who search for you
be filled with joy and gladness in you.
May those who love your salvation
repeatedly shout, “God is great!”
5 But as for me, I am poor and needy;
please hurry to my aid, O God.
You are my helper and my savior;
O Lord, do not delay.
What stands out in these verses is David’s complete dependence on God as David knows the only true source of safety is with Him. We are all so tempted to self-sufficiency and reliance on our own competence, but I encourage you this week to learn from David’s dependence upon God — to lean on Him, trust in Him, and count on Him for all your needs.
Whether pastor, parent, business owner, supervisor, board member — no matter your position or your social status, the Psalms are our strongest strategy of spiritual warfare.
May you live deeply into your calling this week.
