In Psalm 74, the Psalmist describes a situation of horrific destruction and pain. The temple had been destoryed and the people feel completely abandoned. What does one do when all seems lost and there appears to be no way out? How do we engage God in such a moment? The Psalmist turns to memory. He remembers God's actions throughout history from creation all the way through God's relationship with Israel. This memory is the foundation of the Psalmist's faith and the answer to how to move forward. We will all find ourselves in such moments in life and it's the stories that have shaped our memory that will be our guide in how to respond.
