Psalm 8

Listen Later

When Apollo 11 went to the moon in 1969 they had a silicon disk in which they left messages from 73 nations and the message from the Vatican was the text of Psalm 8

Psalm 8 begins and ends with praise to God. It is an inclusion beginning and ending with the same words, "LORD, our Lord, how majestic is Your name in all the earth" vs. 1, 9.

1. The Psalm speaks of the greatness of God compared to the relatively small heavens.
2. It stresses how immense the heavens are compared to small and insignificant man.
3. It states that man is small but God has given Him an exalter position in the universe.

Psalm 8 is quoted often in the NT.
Psalm 8:2 is quoted by Jesus in Matthew 21:16 to speak of how the children are praising Him in the temple.
Psalm 8:4-6 is quoted and broken down in Hebrews 2:6-9 and applied to Jesus.
Psalm 8:6 is applied to Jesus in Ephesians 1:22-23 and I Corinthians 15:27.
