In this Psalm, we get important insight into the heart of God. The Psalm gives us a picture of a divine council that God presides over. God judges other heavenly beings for not upholding justice or caring for the poor and oppressed. The last line of the Psalm then asks God to rise and essentially come do the same thing on earth! Throughout Scripture, God always hears the cry of the oppressed and makes justice and caring for those on the bottom one of the central issues of the entire creation. This Psalm reveals God's heart for the poor and for upholding justice and therefore by exention reveals what should be central in our hearts as well.
