Psalm 82: Psalms for Shepherds

Listen Later

Today, we’re in Psalm 82, a psalm “to instruct the judges of the earth” and to remind them of their duties to God and to the people they lead.

1 God has taken his place in the divine council;
in the midst of the gods he holds judgment:
2 “How long will you judge unjustly
and show partiality to the wicked? Selah
3 Give justice to the weak and the fatherless;
maintain the right of the afflicted and the destitute.
4 Rescue the weak and the needy;
deliver them from the hand of the wicked.”

5 They have neither knowledge nor understanding,
they walk about in darkness;
all the foundations of the earth are shaken.
6 I said, “You are gods,
sons of the Most High, all of you;
7 nevertheless, like men you shall die,
and fall like any prince.”
8 Arise, O God, judge the earth;
for you shall inherit all the nations!

This psalm reminds us that those we elevate on this earth to some man-made pedestal, are only human. They are just like the rest of us. It’s so important to remember this truth because as good as it is to sing praises to God and to pray, if we want Him to listen to us, we must listen to Him — no matter our position of leadership on this earth.

I pray that Psalm 82 has challenged you that no matter your status, your responsibility is to do justly, love kindness, and walk humbly with our God.

.. It is your privilege..........your responsibility............ and that to which you will be held accountable.

And may you live deeply into your calling this week.
