Psalm 83 - God Implored to Confound His Enemies

Listen Later

Psalm, Chapter 83

God Implored to Confound His Enemies.

A Song, a Psalm of Asaph.

83 O God, do not remain quiet;
Do not be silent and, O God, do not be still.

-           the title of this message is “God implored to confound his enemies”

-          The first thing to note is sometimes we need to implore God to do something

o   Implore definition, to beg urgently or piteously, as for aid or mercy; beseech; entreat

-          The next thing we learn is what Asaph is urgently begging God for

-          To Confound His enemies

o   confound: [verb] to bring to ruin : destroy. baffle, frustrate.

o   Notice the letter H in the word His is capitalized

o   This means they are God’s enemies not Asaph’s

-          So we find our brother Asaph praying for God's will

o   we know that's going to happen

o   but it is also an indication of where Asaph’s heart was at this point

§  he was sick of God's enemies causing so much harm to God's children

-          Chapter 83 verse one

-          O God, do not remain quiet

o   Have you ever wanted God not to remain quiet?

o   what a great thing to pray

-          Do not be silent and, O God, do not be still

o   Asaph does not want Got to:

§  Be silent or

§  Be still

o   Asaph wants God to answer and act

o   Anyone else here want God to answer & act?

2 For behold, Your enemies make an uproar,
And those who hate You have [a]exalted themselves.

-          For behold (God check out what Your enemies are doing)

o   Your enemies make an uproar (a loud noise designed to cause fear)

-          And those who hate You have exalted themselves

o   Notice two things

§  First these are “those who hate God”

§  Second “have exalted themselves” (instead of God)

§  When man thinks he is god, big troubles is on the way
