Today we're in Psalm 87. This short psalm – only seven verses in length – is both a prophecy of the future kingdom of God, as well as a picture of the heavenly Zion those who are the children of God have as their spiritual citizenship. Let's read together:
1 On the holy mount stands the city he founded;
2 the Lord loves the gates of Zion
more than all the dwelling places of Jacob.
3 Glorious things of you are spoken,
O city of God.
Selah
4 Among those who know me I mention Rahab and Babylon;
behold, Philistia and Tyre, with Cush[a]—
“This one was born there,” they say.
5 And of Zion it shall be said,
“This one and that one were born in her”;
for the Most High himself will establish her.
6 The Lord records as he registers the peoples,
“This one was born there.”
Selah
7 Singers and dancers alike say,
“All my springs are in you.”
I pray this short psalm has reminded you of the future we have IN our Savior, the Good Shepherd, and WITH Him. And I pray that no matter your circumstances and the challenges you may face today, you can — with me — say, “My whole source of joy is in You, my Lord.” Even if the sheep in your life — whether in your church or parish, your family, or your work or volunteer environment — are challenging you and pushing your patience or your abilities to the limit.
May you rest in Him, this week. And may you live deeply into your calling.
