Psalm 91:9-16

“For He shall give His angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.” That’s a great promise and it’s found in Psalm 91 verse 11. In fact, that’s the promise that Satan quoted to the Lord Jesus Christ when Satan tempted Him in the wilderness. “For He shall give His angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways” (Luke 4:10). This promise talks about our security. We can’t see the angels. They are God’s messengers, they are servants sent to help us. But if we are in the will of God, then we have the protection of the army of God. Our God is called the Lord of hosts. That means the “Lord of the armies.” The hosts of the heavens are under His control. The stars and all the planets and all the universe, but also the great host of angels. Ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands of angels.

God’s creation. God’s army sent for our ministry. Yes, this speaks of our security. When the child of God is in the will of God, then he is immortal until his work is done. But it also suggests that we have a responsibility “to keep thee in all thy ways.” In other words, we must be in the will of God. Verse 9 says “Because thou hast made the LORD, who is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation.” That’s interesting. When you are dwelling in Him, abiding in Him, then He says, “there shall no evil befall thee.” It doesn’t say we won’t be heard; it says we won’t be harmed. We may have to go through the valley, go through the battle, go through difficulty, but it will not bring evil to us. “All things will work together for good” (Romans 8:28). Our security and our responsibility go together, which leads to our victory. What kind of victory does He give us?

Verse 13, “Thou shalt tread upon the lion and the adder: the young lion and the serpent thou shalt trample under feet.” Who is the lion? Satan. Who’s the serpent? Satan. What he’s telling us here is because we are abiding in the Lord making Him our habitation, because His truth is our shield and our buckler, we are going to have victory. We can call upon Him and He will answer. This is a wonderful life, isn’t it? To know that God gives us security as we fulfill our responsibility.
