Psalm 94:1-10
“LORD, how long shall the wicked, how long shall the wicked triumph?” The psalmist asked that question in Psalm 94 verse 3. I’m sure you’ve asked it from your heart as well. “LORD, how long shall the wicked, how long shall the wicked triumph?” Well, you find that sentiment expressed many times in Scripture. The great saints of God cried out, “O, Lord, how long?” When David was being chased by King Saul, many times he said, “How long, O Lord, before I get my throne? You’ve promised it to me.” And yet here is the psalmist telling us God has His plan. You see God hears our prayers, God sees the need, God knows exactly what is going on.
Oh, the wicked think that they have everything under control. Verse 7, “They say, ‘The Lord shall not see, neither shall the God of Jacob regard it.'” “God can’t see what we’re doing, God’s not going to do anything!” That’s the false confidence of the wicked. But listen how the psalmist answers that with inspired logic. “He who planted the ear, shall He not hear? He who formed the eye, shall He not see? He who chastises the nation, shall He not correct? He who teaches man knowledge, shall he not know?” Is God dumber than we are?
Yes, God sees what’s going on in this world. God hears the cries of His own people. And God disciplines those who need discipline and God knows what is going on. “He who teaches man knowledge, shall He not know?” Our tendency of course is to take things in our hands. We say, “Well this has been going on long enough. Now it’s time for us to do something!” Moses tried that approach and it sent him to the wilderness for forty years learning how to trust God’s timing and God’s method and not his own.
When you find yourself crying out, “How long, O Lord, how long?” Number one, focus on God. Number two, know that God knows as much about the situation as you do and probably more; and then wait on Him. Watch and pray. You can be sure that He will keep His word. He knows what is going on.
