Comments on Psalm 127

It is believed that Solomon had the building of the temple in mind when he wrote "Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain." Of course, this thought can be applied to building a family or pretty much any other endeavor. If God is not in it, there will be no lasting value.

With that in mind, it is always a good idea to seek God's will and His blessing in any undertaking. Let's ask God to guide our steps and our decisions. Let's invite Him to step in and take over in our home, our work, our school, our church and our government. Let's ask him to build our house, because we don't want our labor to be in vain. We want the fruit of our labor to last. Don't you agree?

INTRO TO PSALM 125 - 0:47Psalm 125 is in the series of Psalms from 120 through 135, that are titled Songs of Ascent. As the people of Israel made the journey to Jerusalem for one of the three annual feasts, they would sing these songs. Psalm 125 would be especially appropriate as they made their way up to the city and the temple.

PSALM 125 (ESV) - 1:08Psalms, chapter 125.

(1) Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion, which cannot be moved, but abides forever.(2) As the mountains surround Jerusalem,so the Lord surrounds his people, from this time forth and forevermore.(3) For the scepter of wickedness shall not reston the land allotted to the righteous, lest the righteous stretch outtheir hands to do wrong.(4) Do good, O Lord, to those who are good, and to those who are upright in their hearts!(5) But those who turn aside to their crooked waysthe Lord will lead away with evildoers!Peace be upon Israel!

INTRO TO PSALM 126 - 1:48Psalm 126 is also a Song of Ascent and it may have been written as the song of gratitude to God for His restoration of Israel after the exile.
