To experience true fulfillment, you have to prioritize what’s VITAL over what’s URGENT.
• Urgent things are about completing TASKS.
• We all have urgent things to do every day that are important to get done.
• Vital things are about sustaining and enhancing LIFE.
• Vital things are about health - body, soul, spirit.
• It’s urgent for me to finish the task of teaching this concept right now.
• But it’s vital that I use the restroom regularly.
• If I elevate what’s urgent over what’s vital then ultimately I can’t complete the task I need to complete - I’d be sprinting to the bathroom!
• This verse in Psalms shows us the importance of elevating what vital over what’s urgent.
• Vs 1-2 - Life cannot be sustained with water.
• This is true both physically and spiritually.
• The Holy Spirit is water, and without Him our souls die.
• The Psalmist says, “I thirst for You, God!”
• The most important thing for the Psalmist is drinking from the River of Living Water!
• He prioritized what was vital over what was urgent, so now all the urgent things he had to do for the day would fall in line.
• Then, at the end of the day, he wouldn’t just have a list of tasks he completed, but he’d experience the fulfillment of completing them.
• When you prioritize urgent over vital you get stuff done but you lack the fulfillment in doing them.
• ** You may be PRODUCTIVE, but not truly PROFITABLE (Mark 8:36).
• Relationships are rarely urgent, but they are extremely vital - especially your relationship with God.
• So what if you’re not thirsty for your relationship with God and others?
• Take a drink! Drink anyway, and the more you do it the more you’ll thirst!
• To experience true fulfillment, you have to prioritize what’s VITAL over what’s URGENT.
