Psalms for a Dead Machine: Chapter 2 — Translation

Listen Later

Chant seeps through bulkheads and oil rides the air when Elias wakes on the Gloria Imperialis. The crew wants a confession; the confessor wants a kneel; the medicae wants data. Elias yields none of the first and plenty of the second. “We must obey God rather than men” (Acts 5:29) draws the line he will not cross. Then an Inquisitor arrives with colder math: keep your creed quiet, prove your value. A star map flares to life—numbers crooked, drift off. If Elias can straighten their heavens without bending his knee, he might leave the room with his mind intact…and give the ship a reason to keep him breathing.
