Phineas Taylor Barnum has long been heralded as “The Greatest Showman on Earth”.

Although the circus that bears his name shut down in 2017, his legacy as an entertainer and promoter spans more than a century.

That legacy is fraught with shady business practices, exploitation of performers, and a horrendous track record with animals.
