For Episode 1 of PuckPedia Cap Central, Hart Levine and Keith Kavanaugh dive into the new contract extensions. Martin Necas re-upped with the Colorado Avalanche, as did Thomas Harley with the Dallas Stars, and Loogan Cooley with the Utah Mammoth.
They break down all 3 contracts and their structures, and why some opted for more signing bonus. They also talk about how last year’s talks with Mikko Rantanen might have impacted their urgency to get Necas locked up. This also tanks the upcoming UFA class for 2026, as now pretty much all of the big fish have extended with their current teams, leaving Artemi Panarin as the best remaining UFA.
Then they get into the difference between Injured Reserve and Long-Term Injured Reserve. Not only that, but how the new rules in the CBA impact how teams are using LTIR this season. There are currently 10 teams in LTIR for cap purposes, with another 3 teams having at least 1 player on LTIR but not needing the extra cap space, for now.
Then they wrap up with user-submitted questions. As always, reply on X or get in the YouTube chat to submit your questions and have them read live on the show!
