#21: Welcome to the Manifest Travel podcast where I, along with some incredible guests, dive into
all things travel. Through these conversations, I hope to provide you with the inspo and motivation you need to put yourself out there and manifest more travel!
For this week’s episode, I had the absolute pleasure of
chatting with someone whom I now consider a dear friend and a mentor, Matt Bowles. Matt is just an incredible human with this palpable love for his fellow
human beings and a deep passion for social justice and equality.
Matt also hosts a podcast, The Maverick Show, which has over 300 episodes featuring in-depth interviews with world travelers, digital nomads, and location-independent entrepreneurs. The show highlights how he and his guests navigate the world through immersive cultural experiences, while also providing personal and professional insights on entrepreneurship, travel, and remote work.
A defining element of the Maverick show is its focus on
social justice, which Matt incorporates through his own background as a political activist and co-founder of a socially-conscious, fully remote real estate brokerage. The conversations often delve into topics of racial justice,
economic inequality, and the political implications of travel. These discussions provide historical context by addressing the impact of colonialism, global power dynamics, and systemic inequities in different regions.
So we get into some of that in our conversation, as well. We talk about the responsibilities that come with being a global traveler, such as the importance of educating yourself on the social, political, and economic histories of the places you’re visiting and some practical tips you can use to become a more conscious traveler.
We talk about Matt’s pivot from a career in the nonprofit
sector to cofounding a fully remote real estate brokerage firm, Maverick Investor Group and some of the specifics on building a fully remote business in a traditionally location dependent space.
Matt has now been fully location-independent for over 10
years, so we talk about stability anchors and his advice on how to maintain an organized, consistent schedule in an ever changing, dynamic environment- as is the case for most digital nomads.
