Field Notes: 5 Day Devo

Push Past The Excuses

Listen Later

More information has never been easier to access, yet the path that brings most people back to church is surprisingly old school: a trusted friend saying, “Come with me.” Pastor Josh kicks off this Field Notes devotional by pushing us past the comfortable excuse of “we posted it online,” and into the kind of relational evangelism that actually changes lives. If you care about discipleship, spiritual growth, and real community, this one lands with both urgency and hope.

We dig into why digital resources like sermons, podcasts, and church ads can be great tools, but rarely do the whole job of reaching the lost. Discipleship does not happen by accident or by passive listening. We forget most of what we only hear, which is why this devotional leans into a challenge and an action step that turns faith into practice. The goal is not more content. The goal is deeper roots and real relationships that make Jesus visible.

Then we tackle one of the most common roadblocks to inviting someone: church hurt. We take it seriously without letting it shut down the conversation. Hurt is real, but it does not have to keep us or our friends stuck forever. Today’s invitation is simple and low pressure: think of one person who has written off church or faith, write their name down, and reach out with a clear, kind invite to join you this Sunday.

If this encouraged you, subscribe to the podcast, share it with a friend who needs a nudge, and leave a review so more people can find it. Who are you inviting this week?
