Succeeding in a male-dominated environment...
My interview with former Police Staff member and current project manager, Chris Wells-West.
Starting at the bottom in a very male-dominated environment of UK policing, as a civilian member of Staff, Chris tells some of her story of being in the minority, both as a female and as a civilian member of the team.
Overcoming bias, the requirement to constantly prove herself to the organisation in each role she undertook, continual challenges, and suggestion of a bullying attitude from certain members of the hierarchy, Chris stuck with it. She succeeded in her roles, achieved promotions and commendations and became the Logistics and Resourcing Lead for some of the biggest police operations that the UK has seen within the past decade, culminating in her being awarded the British Empire Medal for Services to Policing.
It would have probably been easier, many times, to walk away and find another less draining career with fewer battles to deal with, but hear how Chris managed to push through it.
This interview will resonate with many people.
