Chapter 5 throws light on their struggle for food, their accidental encounter of a big deer and their plan to preserve and pack it for their upcoming days in the journey for food and footwear needs. Their path is now somewhere close by to Lake Baikal according to the narrator and they come across a sign board for the place called "Chechka". Once they swim and cross the Baikal lake, they come across railway track of trans siberian railway - which goes until town Vladivostok. At the end of the chapter, they have a chance encounter with a female named "Christina Polanska" - a Poland girl.
