On this Ekadashi, married couples desiring a son pray to Lord Vishnu. Husbands and wives hoping to conceive a boy observe complete abstinence from food for 24 hours. Even those who do not fast on this day are advised to abstain from grains, legumes, rice, certain vegetables, and seasonings.

It is advisable to visit Vishnu temples, where festive pujas and kirtans are held on this day.

Spiritualists observe this fast to attain God’s mercy and be freed from the illusion of the material world. Therefore, Ekadashi is called “the best of all opportunities.”
