QPP015: Trolls Under the Bridge

Listen Later

Welcome back to the only Star Wars podcast that will not let this Republic that has stood for a thousand years be split in two! We're joined again by Jay Bartlett, as well as super-collector Paul Van Dyk. to discuss the recent reports about the standalone films being "put on hold" and the rampant toxicity running through the community. Media sensationalism and hateful ignorance are sending seismic ripples across the galaxy far, far away, and we felt it was necessary to tackle these contentious issues head-on.

We talk about some heavy topics like fan entitlement, the negative impact of social media, and hateful reactions to the actors themselves. But we were also drawn irrevocably back to the positive sides as well - like the ups and downs of collecting and the many different ways we can enjoy the franchise. We even discuss a way to perceive the different "universes" of Star Wars in one way, inspired by J.J. Abrams' Star Trek films.

Was Luke really more successful in Legends? How has the classic battle between Star Wars and Star Trek changed over the decades? How many times did Jay see The Phantom Menace in theatres, and what's the strangest set of items in Paul's legendary collection? What would Carrie say to the trolls rampant on Twitter these days? Tune in for all answers to all these questions and more.

Things may seem bleak right now, but the mythic, inspirational power of Star Wars still shines through. Remember, "hope is like the sun - if you only believe in it when you can see it, you'll never make it through the night."
