Queen of Swords

Queen of Swords

Welcome to season 8 of this podcast, where I am talking all about the Suit of Swords. I’ll be going through each card in the suit, one per episode.

What we explore in this episode:

  • The Queen of Swords as a figure of clarity, grace, intellect, and lived wisdom

  • Symbolism across decks: direct gaze, swords held with reverence, and clear, airy skies

  • The Queen’s ability to hold both truth and tenderness, head and heart

  • What it means to embody discernment and to lead with integrity

  • The difference between emotional detachment and healthy boundaries

Pictures from the decks I talked about today referenced from left to right:

  • Anima Mundi Tarot Deck by Megan Wyreweden

  • The Sasuraibito Tarot deck by Stasia Burrington

  • The Desert Illuminations Tarot by Lindsay D. Williams

In this episode, we step into the clever presence of the Queen of Swords. This card often appears when it’s time to speak the truth, cut through confusion, and lead with clarity. This Queen doesn’t sugarcoat. She invites us to hold boundaries, honor our lived experience, and resist the pressure to dilute our truth just to be liked.

We talk about the Queen as a wise elder, a keen observer, and a protector of personal sovereignty. She is sharp, but not cruel. She asks hard questions—not to harm, but to illuminate. She reminds us that real strength can be quiet, deliberate, and rooted in self-knowledge.

Today's Tarot Pull:

From The Citadel: A Fantasy Oracle by Fen Inkwright, I pulled The Witch (reversed). Upright, this card invites us to experiment, rebel, and reshape tradition to fit our lives. Reversed, it asks us to pause. Are you discarding everything for the sake of rebellion? Are you resisting guidance that could actually support your path?

The Witch reversed suggests a rebalancing: keep what nourishes, discard what oppresses, and remember that reinvention doesn’t always require destruction. Reflective prompts on this card:

  • Where am I rebelling out of habit, not intention?

  • What wisdom might I be overlooking because it comes in a traditional form?

  • How can I blend structure with freedom in a way that supports me now?
