Queen Seondeok of Silla is by far one of the most fascinating Asian queens I have ever read about. Her father fought ferociously for her right to rule and she presided over a golden age for the Korean kingdoms in terms of art and culture. However the political situation between the various Korean kingdoms was always shaky and Queen Seondeok spent most of her reign trying to keep Silla from tearing itself apart.
