Someone wrote in about the time in between. Moments of overwhelming joy where he ends up on his knees — and then a heavy sinking afterwards, and the fear that it was the last one. He's gone numb before. He's afraid numbness is how forgetting starts.

This episode goes to Psalm 77, taken in two halves. Asaph in the dark, refusing to be comforted, afraid that God has forgotten him — and then a turn that isn't a feeling arriving, but a decision to say out loud what God has done. The psalm ends with no joy restored and a sentence about a shepherd.

Someone asked which scripture they should meditate on to be more of a light and grow closer to God. Then, at the end of the post, the real thing: they're not getting fed daily because they don't know what they're looking for.

A woman prayed about whether to accept a relationship, got a no, and said no. Then a stranger claimed a revelation that this man was meant for her — and when she declined anyway, told her there might never be anyone else. She's twenty-seven, and that sentence is what's keeping her up.

Her first question has an easy answer and she doesn't really need it. The second one is the live one, so this episode goes there: who is allowed to tell her what's coming. To 1 Kings 22, where four hundred prophets were confident and unanimous and wrong. And to Psalm 31, where a frightened man says my times are in your hand while people are talking about him.

I'm convinced God made me just to suffer

A nineteen year old wrote in with a charge rather than a question. Short, underdeveloped, neurodivergent, socially anxious, a year since he last did anything with his friends — and his conclusion is that the one who made him did it deliberately, and did it against him. Maybe, he says, it was an inside joke.

This episode doesn't defend God and doesn't explain suffering. It goes to Job, who made the identical accusation in almost identical words — thine hands have made me, yet thou dost destroy me — and never once got a reason, not even at the end. And to Psalm 88, the one psalm that never turns, where every complaint is aimed straight at God and the last word is darkness.

Someone in their mid twenties wrote in asking whether this is a thing God would want them to bring to him — never been in love, never been pursued, never been told they're loved like that. The post apologises for the want four or five times before anyone has said a word to them.

So the question isn't really whether prayer is permitted. It's whether the want has to be converted into something more acceptable first — contentment, or gratitude, or asking to notice the love that's already there.

Someone wrote in asking how to stop making another person the center of their life, and how to love someone in future without it happening again. Underneath the question is a quieter one — whether the capacity to want someone that badly is a fault in them, something to be cut down so it never happens again.

This episode doesn't answer the question they asked. It goes to Leah in Genesis 29, whose whole state rose and fell on whether one man turned toward her, for years, in the same house — and to Psalm 63, which never once looks at the man praying it.

When someone you love dies outside the faith — Psalm 88

A man's brother was murdered at thirty-three. He believed as a child and never came back to it as an adult. His brother lays out the doctrine carefully, answers the objections before anyone can raise them, and then says the line the rest of it is built around: "It torments me thinking about him suffering again for eternity."

This episode doesn't settle where his brother is. Scripture never hands a living person that verdict about a named dead one. It goes instead to Abraham standing in front of God arguing over the fate of his own family, and walking home without an answer — and to Heman, who asked God directly whether his kindness reaches into the grave, and ended the psalm in the dark.

Someone wrote about a rare, worsening condition with no hope of healing, and asked why God lets some people suffer while others sail through. That question gets argued at length. But four words at the end carry the real one: how can God leave me here.

This episode doesn't answer why. It goes to Psalm 88 — Heman the Ezrahite, cut off, worn out, crying day and night with nothing coming back, telling God to his face that he has hidden it. The only psalm that never turns. God kept it in the book he gave his people to pray, and did not correct it.

One difference between the post and the psalm: one is said about God, the other is said to him. That's the whole episode.

Someone posted online that other Christians make them grouchy — the snark, the superiority, the sense that the people who were meant to be safe aren't. Buried in the middle of it is a shorter line: we don't have each other as a safe space.

This episode doesn't answer the question. It goes to Jeremiah, who wanted a shelter in the desert so he wouldn't have to be among his own people, and wept for them in the same breath. Then to Psalm 55, which says almost the same sentence as the post, pointed somewhere else.
