When Larry Sanger was a teenager, he reached out to a pastor with sincere questions. But instead of engaging thoughtfully, the pastor dismissed him.

Sanger said that this interaction was unfortunate because he truly wanted answers, and the pastor was not prepared to give them. This experience contributed to his skepticism.

Larry Sanger, the co-founder of Wikipedia, says that philosophical arguments played a role in his conversion, but another important factor was the graciousness of Christians he knew. Their kindness and integrity made an impact on him.

Christians need to remember that it really matters how they treat people. You can win a debate with someone, but actually push them further away from Christ if you don’t show love.

Theocracy, as practised in Iran, is something that all Christians should reject. However, fear of being charged with “theocracy” should not prevent Christians from bringing about important change. Many Christians, such as Martin Luther King Jr., brought about important change and were motivated by their Christian faith.

To some degree, Christians should be concerned about the dangers of Christian Nationalism and its implications for society. That’s because some forms of Christian Nationalism can be bad. But at other times, fears over “Christian Nationalism” are used to prevent Christians from bringing about positive changes in society. In this latter case, Christians should not be intimated when they vote at the ballot box.
