Quietly Visible

Good work does not always speak for itself.

Leaders often want to believe that results, consistency, and reputation will eventually make their capability obvious. But organizations rarely observe the full body of work. Supervisors see outcomes, records, brief interactions, and occasional snapshots. They do not always see the judgment, preparation, or effort beneath them.

In this episode, I wrestle with the tension between allowing your reputation to develop naturally and making enough of your work visible for others to judge it fairly.

Say too little, and an incomplete picture may become a complete judgment.

Say too much, and the work can begin to feel like self-promotion.

The deeper question may not be whether leaders want recognition. It may be whether they want to be understood accurately,and whether those are actually different things.
