And again, I say, “GOD IS LIGHT.” That’s the main idea that John writes to the Christ followers in his time, but it also applies to us today. Sometimes it feels like we are stumbling through life as if there is no light. But, in I John 1:5-2:2 we are reminded that Jesus can pull us back into the light if we will let Him. As God is Light, so is Jesus Christ. In Chapter 1 verses 6-10 begin with the words, “If we.” If we say we have fellowship but walk in the dark, we lie; if we walk in the light and have fellowship with one another the blood of Jesus cleanses us; if we say we have no sin, we are not telling the truth; if we confess our sins, He is faithful and forgiving; and, if we say we have not sinned, His word is not in us. Then, in Chapter 2, John addresses us as, “My little children” and tells us to, “sin not.” As a parent guides their child, John is trying to guide us to the light that is found in Jesus Christ. John reminds us that when we do fall into the dark, we have an advocate with the Father in Jesus Christ if we confess our sin. Jesus Christ paid your sin debt in full on the cross. In fact, he paid, “for the sins of the whole world.” Are you walking in the dark? Do you have a hard time confessing your sin? Jesus Christ is the greatest defense you will ever know. If you are in the dark feeling hopelessness and despair, but want to be in the light where there is hope and eternal life, turn to the light of Jesus Christ. He is waiting for you and He will turn on the light!
