When I first hired Rachel, I was impressed with her resume. But it wasn’t long before I regretted that hire!
Rachel was twenty-three years old and came to our organization with the experience necessary to do a good job. However, it only took a couple weeks to conclude that she was immature, lazy and filled with excuses.
One day she boasted to some of us on staff that her father had written all her college papers, and even filled out her resume to get her the job! Rachel thought the story was funny.
I thought it was sad.
Rachel’s father had good intentions, but it truly backfired. Mom, Dad, don’t intervene on your child’s behalf at their own peril! At some point, you have to let ‘em grow up!
