Host: Mark Nolan Hill, MD

Guest: Hugh Herr, PhD

In 2008, South African double-amputee sprinter Oscar Pistorius did not qualify for the Olympic Games in Beijing. But his quest to compete in the Olympics against able-bodied athletes stoked an extraordinary debate about the role of his prosthetic legs in furthering this dream. Dr. Hugh Herr, associate professor in the MIT-Harvard Division of Health Sciences and Technology, and director of the MIT Biomechatronics Group, conducted independent analyses on the carbon-fiber blades worn by Mr. Pistorius. Dr. Herr shares the remarkable story of Mr. Pistorius with host Dr. Mark Nolan Hill.
