"Educationally subnormal" - that was the horrible term used to label children who had a "low or below average level of understanding or intelligence".  Caribbean children were often labelled this in the 1960s, due to the racist views of the government and education staff at the time. The misidentification of Black children led to a generation of students who were dumped in special schools, without much say so from their parents, until the Black community took a stand.
