This week the Instigator and the Yogi dig in to the notion and actions of radical acceptance.
Being human is messy. Often uncomfortable. Complicated. We are often tempted to focus only on the things that bring us pleasure, which we mistakenly believe will decrease our suffering. With this kind of bypassing, we miss out on many opportunities to find and achieve those things that are good for our health and wellness in the short and long term. Cake may taste good, but broccoli is packed with nutrients we need. Must we forego the cake and eat only the broccoli? We think there's room for both.
Radical acceptance means embracing our whole selves. The good, the bad, the ugly, the beautiful, and everything in between. Like most of our topics, this is a practice; there's no such thing as perfection. Some days it's easy to accept our whole selves (like eating cake). Other days, it feels like choking down broccoli (or insert other food item you find distasteful). We invite you to work toward accepting and integrating ALL your complicated parts. It will often feel like work. That just means you're doing it. We're right there with you.
Are you struggling with something? Or is there something you'd like to hear us discuss?
