Rahul Mishra is an Indian fashion designer based in Delhi. He won the International Woolmark Prize in 2014 at Milan Fashion Week, becoming the first Indian designer to win the award. The winning collection was sold in stores around the world. In 2008, he was awarded the MTV Youth Icon of the Year by MTV India. The young man who moved out of a UP village and journeyed to Milan works mainly with craft communities in the villages of Gujarat, West Bengal and Madhya Pradesh. Mishra’s studio has catalysed many experiments with Indian handlooms, weaving silk with cotton, wool with silk, to create new textures and weaves. “Design is the only place where science and art come together and that’s what I love the most,” he says. Fashion designer Anuj Sharma works mainly in areas of craft development and sustainability. Sharma’s other areas include teaching fashion and understanding human behaviour with the help of fashion. He has previously shown collection in Japan, UK, Sweden, and Bangladesh. He is also a regular at Lakme fashion week in Mumbai. Anuj Sharma has come up with a unique method to construct clothes without any machine, tools or stitches technique. It is titled Button Masala. The method has led to the Button Masala collection, which has been shown internationally for e.g. as part of the travelling exhibition Connecting Concepts by Dutch design DFA, and part of the exhibition Bliss at the Taiwan design expo 2011. He has taught the technique of Button Masala to over 20000 people across the world.
