UPDATE: Hopefully you’ve listened to part 1 of this discussion with our friend, Caitlin Fechner. We’d highly recommend you listen to part 1 before diving in with us for part 2.
We surveyed parents a few months ago about where they stood with regards to allowing (or not allowing) sleepovers for their kids. The reviews were heavy on the “no way” or “family only” but there were quite a few parents landing on “yes, they’re fun and such a great childhood memory!” And they are and were!
In the internet age, information is coming at us at lightning speed. So, we know more. In real time. What do we do with that knowledge? Should it affect our parenting?
Our friend, Caitlin Fechner, joins us for this 2-part series. Caitlin has a BA in Psychology from the University of Texas at Austin and a MS in counseling from SMU. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor, currently employed as a therapist with Dallas ISD. She’s married to Michael, and they have two sons, Trey and Milo. We had so much to talk about that we decided to devote 2 episodes to this topic. This discussion is hard and real. Sleepovers in the 1970s consisted mostly of junk food, music, and a game or two of “straight as a board, light as a feather!” (iykyk) ☺
Sleepovers in the 2020s can look a lot different. As always, you’re the parent and will make decisions for your family that reflect your family values and parenting style. We’re all doing the best we can most days, and that’s the truth. Hopefully this episode will give you something to think about and consider as you make decisions for your family.
As always, thanks for listening! We appreciate you! Lisa and Chrissie
