In this episode I am joined by immigrant rights activist and resource coordinator Mariana Sarmiento. Mariana is an immigrant, who at 26, is still undocumented, though having been living in this country since she was a little girl. Brought to the United States from Mexico, she paints to us a concerning picture of what her and millions of other undocumented immigrants go through trying to live, survive, and flourish in this country. She delves into how the immigration system is designed to keep certain people out and how undocumented immigrants are more vulnerable to work exploitation, addiction, and mental health issues. She shares how she has managed to remain sane through her many obstacles and talks the different ways to avoid burn out, compassion fatigue, and the importance of setting boundaries.
