The Prophet (PBUH) compared his guidance and knowledge to abundant rain, some of which is absorbed by fertile soil and brings forth vegetation, some of which is held by hard soil and benefits people, and some of which falls on barren land with no benefits. This represents those who comprehend and benefit from Allah's teachings, those who benefit from it indirectly, and those who ignore it entirely.
