Ramaphosa makes two years of early childhood development compulsory

This year there will be two years of compulsory early childhood development (ECD) for all children before they enter Grade one. President Cyril Ramaphosa made this announcement during his State of the Nation Address last week. Ramaphosa says his government will migrate early childhood education centres from the Department of Social Development to Basic Education. Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga has welcomed the move, stating that moving early childhood centres to her department will improve the quality of education in the country.
