Ramsbottom food gets snapped on Instagram – Episode 80

Listen Later

Welcome to This is Rammy, your sometimes weekly source for all things Ramsbottom in an audible form.

Well I don’t know about you but I’ve had to get that heating cranked up this week, hasn’t it gone cold. One thing for sure, we are well and truly on our way to cosy nights in or even wrapped up social nights out.

This episode I’m talking about one of our favourite things around here in Ramsbottom, no, not walking, drinking real ale or complaining about potholes, I’m talking food. More specifically I’m talking about an article that was recently published in Lancashire Life titled “Instagram for foodies”.

If you’re unfamiliar with Instagram, I can sum it up as being an image based social media platform where it’s users tend to gravitate towards food. If you’re not a follower of the This is Rammy Instagram page, now would be a great time for us to connect.

I’m going to try my very best to explain some of what I can see in these Instagram accounts, if you’re reading this on the website you’ll have the benefit of being able to follow along.

The article in Lancashire Life highlighted some of our more obvious local eateries in the forms of the Eagle and Child, Lolos and Levanter to name just three however it did also help to shine the light on some smaller culinary clever dicks such as Grind and Tamp and even creative cake makers with The Naptime Baker. Seriously, check out the cakes on the Naptime Bakers page, they’re amazing and I really can’t do them justice in words.

Small Business Saturday [4:25]

Small Business Saturday

It’s Small Business Saturday on the 3rd of December. What Small Business Saturday aims to do is highlight small business success and encourage us all to ‘shop local’.

I think you and I do a very good job of doing in Ramsbottom currently but we can always do more. This is a great initiative which I became aware of earlier in the year.

The website has a wealth of information including a local business search tool so that you can find more businesses locally as well as links to support for flooding for businesses, there is even a link to a 21 page cookbook highlighting various small businesses that have helped to contribute (Download the logos and it’s included in the zip file). If you have a small business make sure you use the hashtag #SmallBizSat to get involved in the social media elements and make sure you’re registered on their search tool, there were only a handful of businesses local to Rammy on there but there needs to be more.

Small Business Saturday takes place every year on the first Saturday of December.

The Eagle and Child, they’ve only gone and won another award [6:33]

The much awarded Eagle and Child have only gone and won another award. This time Glen and the team have won a National Institute in Training Award (NITA) for their focuses on innovation, approach to training and their skills in coaching and developing their teams on a daily basis.

Well done to Glen and the team there, if you ever want to check out all their awards, visit The Eagle and Child on Whalley Road and check out their window sill. Tell them I sent you to stare.

I spoke to Glen back in episode 39 of the podcast, just over a year ago.

Ramsbottom United News [9:47]

Salmon and Seddon have done wonders recently especially then they teamed up to cause problems for Redditch United in the FA Trophy in which Ramsbottom United won confidently with a 4-1 scoreline.

The next match is Saturday the 26th of November at The Riverside, and kick-off is 3pm.
